VMA 2021: Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo e os vencedores do evento apresentado por Doja Cat

MTV anunciou a lista de indicados ao Video Music Awards 2021 em 11 de agosto de 2021, segundo comunicado oficial à imprensa. Todos os anos, a premiação elege nomes importantes da indústria da música e dos videoclipes — além disso, destaca um Artista Revelação do momento. A cerimônia ocorreu no último domingo, 12, e os líderes em nomeações foram Justin Bieber (7) e Megan Thee Stallion (6).

Além deles, artistas como Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Drake,Giveon, Lil NasX e Olivia Rodrigo também se destacaram na lista de indicações. As votações do público nas 14 categorias sem gênero ocorreram até 3 de setembro. A votação para Artista Revelação, porém, foi estendida até 12 de setembro.

MTV Video Music Awards 2021 marcou a volta dos eventos presenciais em Nova York, nos Estados Unidos, e a reabertura da cidade após vários meses de isolamento social em decorrência da pandemia de covid-19. De acordo com a organização do evento, a segurança dos artistas e do público foi a principal prioridade e diversos protocolos foram instaurados para garantir um ambiente protegido.
