Com riffs de guitarra contagiantes, certa indiferença na atitude e os vocais sujos de Julian Casablancas, o The Strokes conquistou a cena alternativa de Nova York com o disco Is This It, lançado em 2001.
Desde então, a banda lançou outros cinco discos e, no meio de diversas críticas e elogios, influenciou diversas bandas do indie rock, como Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Vampire Weekend e Kings of Leon, segundo o New York Post.
